My Poor Garden

Yup, you read that right. My garden is looking pretty poor these days. Sadly, my flowers were already struggling, and the gross heat we've been having recently left the already puny flowers with no hope for survival. :( All, yes ALL of the window boxes now sit empty and I'm wondering if I should just keep them that way until the cool Fall weather is here... I'm thinking I just may!

Now take a look below at all the things that are doing well in my garden. I'm just praying the cooler temperatures come soon, so I don't lose anything else.

Blueberry and Raspberry Plants

Jalapeno and Basil Plants

The Jalapenos are still goin' strong!

And the herbs are struggling a bit.

But the lime tree is doing just fine.

As is the tomato plant.
But sadly, it's been my least successful tomato plant.

Check back soon for updates. Hopefully I only have new additions and no more losses to report!! Oh - and I'd love any suggestions on things to plant in my FALL garden, which I'll be doing VERY soon!

The Tomato Plant Is Back!

A few times this year I've posted about my disappointment in this year's tomato plant. I was ready to give up on it entirely, until a close friend suggested that the Topsy Turvy MAY just need more soil! Their suspicion was correct and I'm happy to report that I have new hope for this year's tomato plant! I noticed one small cluster of flowers earlier this week, and while taking pictures earlier today I counted a total of SEVEN new blossom clusters!!! I just hope they all turn into little cherry tomatoes, and more continue to grow in the next few months. I will keep you posted on the progress.

I was just going to post about the tomato plant success, but I noticed that my herbs are really thriving and my two berry pants are growing well, but sadly not producing any berries just yet!

Rosemary, Oregano, Sage and Thyme

Basil

Flat Leaf Parsley

And the mint that won't die!

Blueberry and Raspberry Plants

Lastly, I'm happy to report that I haven't seen any new caterpillars recently AND oddly enough, one of the geraniums that was infested is now THRIVING! Funny, because I was very close to getting rid of it completely! Now I'm very glad I didn't.

Check back soon for a more complete garden update with all the goodies I currently have growing!

Happy Westgivingston!

Westgivingston!?!?!

What is this Westgivingston stuff?

Does she mean Thanksgiving?!?!?!

Is Robyn CRAZY???

No - no I'm not!

Well maybe a little...

But that's another story for another time! :)

So let me explain before I confuse everyone!

Alison, one of my best friends, has been doing a Thanksgiving dinner with close friends for years and this year I was lucky enough to be included. The tradition started in New York when she and her husband were in college.  Instead of of calling it Thanksgiving, they called it “Thanksgivingston” because it was a play on the name of the street he lived on at the time. Since they now live on the West Coast, they modified the name a bit and we officially celebrated the first EVER Westgivingston last night!

Just like a normal Thanksgiving, Westgivingston was not lacking on amazing food. It was a FEAST and I'm pretty sure everyone was stuffed!

Since I love to bake and cook, you better bet that I contributed to the meal by making my own goodies! I just can't help myself and I look forward to cooking for things like this.

So what did I make exactly?

Well I'll show ya!

"Restaurant Salad" Ingredients
(Minus a Granny Smith Apple...)

And you can't have a "Restaurant Salad" without a
GIANT bowl from a Restaurant Supply Store!

Lots and lots of spring mix with added extra spinach!

Everything minus the dressing!

I was planning on just making a "Restaurant Salad"...

...

Buuuuuuuuut since it IS Pie Month on my blog...

...

I figured it only made sense to make a pie too!!!

My FIRST Pecan Pie
(See a more detailed post on this coming soon.)

Westgivingston was tons and tons of fun and I'm looking to celebrating it in the coming years. For now though, it's time to start planning for the REAL Thanksgiving! It's gonna be here in no time. Get your stretchy pants ready people! :)

Fun With Pillsbury Crescent Rolls - Take 3!

That's riiiiiiiight folks - ANOTHER recipe with good ol' Pillsbury Crescent Rolls!

You know...I can't remember the last time I had them as regular Crescent Rolls. Haha.

The other night I decided to take a shot at making turnovers using the Crescent Roll dough. I made half raspberry/cream cheese to use up some berries and cream cheese frosting and the other half was simply chocolate chip!

Here's how it all went down:

Start with ONE Seamless Crescent Roll Tube

Take Some Berries - I used Raspberries

Chop 'em up REALLLLLLLY small.

Melt some Cream Cheese Frosting

Get some Chocolate Chips from the pantry

Open Crescent Roll Tube and spread out on cutting board.

Cut into EIGHT equal triangles.

Fill half with raspberry/cream cheese and the other half with chocolate chips.
Fold over to form triangle and pinch seam shut using a fork.
Cut a slit on top of each to vent while baking.
(I also melted a little butter and sprinkled sugar on top!!!)

Bake according to tube directions for about 10 minutes.

Almost done baking.

Cool for a little and then ENJOY!
