Biscuit Donuts

Since I just posted about frying chicken wings, I thought I'd continue the fried food post trend and tell you about the easiest donuts you can possibly make!

For awhile, I'd wanted to try to make donuts at home, but hadn't because they seemed a little time consuming. Plus, donuts are best enjoyed fresh and I don't need to eat a full batch myself...

Then one day, while browsing Facebook, I saw a friend post pictures of donuts she'd made using a can of Pillsbury Biscuits.  I was very intrigued, so I did a little more research. I found this recipe, realized how simple they were to make and couldn't wait!

Soon after, I purchased a can of biscuits and convinced my neighbor's that they too wanted to enjoy some fresh hot Biscuit Donuts. I'd planned on making the Cinnamon Sugar version, but they convinced me that we should try to make some glazed ones too! It didn't take too much convincing either. :)

Now let's get to the good stuff - making these tasty treats!

The Goods:
Canned Biscuits
Powdered Sugar
Vegetable Oil

Melted Butter and Cinnamon/Sugar Mixture

Making the Glaze

Almost done!

And done!

Now, let's make the DONUTS!!!

Cut the centers out of the biscuits.
We didn't have a biscuit cutter,
but that would have made the processes a little easier!

Heat the oil in a large pan.

Begin the frying process with two biscuit donuts.
Flipping over after they start to brown.

Those look about done!

Lay the cooked biscuit donuts on paper towels
to absorb excess oil and grease.

Once everything is fried and looking delicious,
make 'em look even better by coating them in either...

 The Cinnamon Sugar mixture!

Or the Glaze!

The donut holes were just soooo cute!

So cute, I almost didn't want to eat it...

We may very well make JUST donut holes next time. While both the holes and the normal donuts were delicious, the donut holes were just a little better!

Buffalo Chicken Wings

In my Superbowl Food post, I showed you the AMAZING Chicken Wings and told you I'd post about how to make them soon. Well...soon is here folks! So without saying much more, let me show you how to make these wings! And if you're like me, you won't want to eat store/restaurant bought wings after trying these!!!

Make the sauce...

Throw a stick of butter in a saucepan.

And 1/2 Cup of Franks's Hot Sauce

Melt the butter into the hot sauce.
Turn off heat and set aside.

Now, onto the wings...

Remove the wings from the package
and set on some paper towels.

Heat oil in cast iron skillet.

Once oil is about 375 degrees, start adding the wings!

Fry those wings. Flipping a time or two.

They're almost done!!!

Remove from the oil and set on a cooling rack
to let the rest of the oil drip off.

Toss the wings in the sauce and cover completely.

Serve with Bleu Cheese and Celery.

This recipe is so simple. You'll only need a few things: Party Wings, Franks Hot Sauce, Butter, Vegetable Oil, Bleu Cheese Dressing (Optional), Bleu Cheese Crumbles (Optional) and Celery (Optional). The hardest part is being patient while the wings fry up and get nice and crispy!!!

Blowdry Bar

Two of my girlfriends and I recently went to a Blowdry Bar for a belated birthday celebration! We'd planned on going to Blow Me Dry because it was really close to my apartment. It's a good thing we couldn't go closer to my birthday, because just a few days before we went, I was emailed a Living Social deal that made our blowouts just $17!!! I was ready to pay full price, but was stoked to get such a deal! I just hoped it'd look as good as I imagined...

They start by washing and conditioning your hair. I love having my hair washed so I was in heaven from the very start! Next they blow your hair out straight using a round brush or two. After that - if you want curls, and I did!! - they curl your hair depending on how you tell them you want it curled. I asked for something different than I normally do because I didn't know how do to it and wanted to try something new!

All in all, I was super impressed! I absolutely LOVED my hair and the girl that did it was just wonderful.

I would go back in a heartbeat (paying full price too...) and just wish it was something I could do on a more regular basis! Try it! Hope you end up loving it too!!

Garden Improvements

I recently posted about the sad condition of my garden, and in that post I mentioned I hoped to revamp it in the near future! Well...the near future has come! Last Saturday, I purchased some new flowers and Sunday morning I spant a few hours outside cleaning up and planting the new beauties.

Take a look at all the new flowers and herbs I added to my growing garden last weekend.

View from below.

The corner is starting to look better...

New flowers!!

Laker color pansies!

I decided to get more geraniums because
the one I had was doing so well...

Oregano, Sage, Thyme and Rosemary

Flat Leaf Parsley, Mint and Basil

The Lime Tree!
I noticed today that it has a TON of new blossoms
so I'm HOPING for a bunch of limes!!!

Be sure to check back soon for updates on them and all the other plants! And MAYBE there will be some more new additions in the not to distant future!

Superbowl Food!

For Superbowl this year, I hung out with two of my best friends - my friend Elina and her husband, Adam. Elina and I decided to make some yummy food for all three of us to enjoy! While we're pretty good in the kitchen alone, when you put us together - look out!!!

To start, we made some homemade salsa and guacamole and enjoyed both with some tortilla chips we flavored with fresh squeezed lime!

After that, Elina got to work prepping the potatoes and I started getting the toppings together. I couldn't wait for a homemade potato skin. YUM!!

Next, we start working on what we were all looking forward to: the homemade chicken wings!! We weren't sure if we'd be able to find party wings, but Ralphs came through and had quite a few packs to choose from! I'll post about the chicken wing process in the near future, but until then - look at how great they turned out!! They are BY FAR, the best wings I've ever had! Check back soon for the post all about them.

Hope you all had a great Superbowl and got to eat some yummy food.
