DIY: Craft Closet Makeover!

If you've read my blog for any time now,

you'll know that I'm into crafts and DIY projects,

so of course I have quite a few supplies.

Earlier this year I showed you a fun DIY project

where I turned an over the door shoe holder

into a wrapping paper and craft supply storage.

But my craft supplies don't end there.

I have half a closet in my den full of craft "stuff"

and I was fed up with the way it was stored.

So today I'm showing you my Craft Closet Makeover.

It was pretty simple, cost around $50 and looks so much better!

I was so happy with the end result.

The Before

I'm so embarrassed how messy this looks!

Supplies I picked up at Target.

All cleaned out and ready to be made over.

Now time to fill it up!!!

The After!

I've added and changed a few small things since this picture,

but like I said before I am so happy with the way it turned out.

I love having everything organized and easily accessible.

DIY: Wrapping Paper/Craft Supply Holder!

I've accumulated quite a bit of craft supplies over the years,

and I'm pretty serious when it comes to organizing it all.

But I'm always on the hunt for new and better ways,

especially when it comes to storing wrapping paper.

I recently saw a few ideas to use over the door shoe holders,
and after wrapping a gift for someone recently,
I realized it was time to upgrade my current wrapping paper storage,
so I created a super easy DIY Wrapping Paper/Craft Supply holder.

Take a look at how easy this was to make!!!

The Goods:

Over the Door Shoe Holder

Scissors

Since I wanted the wrapping paper to be at the very bottom,

I knew I'd need to use the three lowest rows of the shoe holder.

The pockets on the lowest row are kept as is to hold the paper in,

but the 2nd and 3rd lowest rows become loops instead of pockets.

Do this by cutting across the bottom or each pocket on those two rows.

As pictured above, you'll now have an opening at both ends of the pocket.

Now just simply hang over a free door

and fill it with wrapping paper and other craft supplies!

I was SO happy to find a clear/plastic over the door shoe holder for a few reasons.

It made cutting the bottom out of the 2nd and 3rd row pockets super easy,

because this type of plastic tends to cut easier than fabric.

AND since it's clear it's so easy to see all your craft supplies!

DIY: Pom Pom Cone Cards

If you've followed my blog for any time,

you're probably already aware I make my own cards.

Proof can be found here, here and here.

And I'm always on the lookout for new card ideas.

While waiting in line to check out at a store recently,

I saw a gift bag out of the corner of my eye,

and immediately knew I wanted to use the idea,

to turn it into a bunch of different greeting cards.

So not too long after seeing the gift bag,

I went to Michael's to purchase some pom poms,

and got to work on creating my cards.

Let me show you how simple they are to make!

The Goods:

Pre-folded Cards or Card stock

Pom-Poms (I used two different sizes)

Textured Beige Scrapbook Paper

Hot Glue Gun

Hot Glue Sticks

Cut a bunch of isosceles triangles out of the beige paper.

I cut two different sizes because I had plans to use two sized pom-poms. 

Using your glue gun, secure the cones to the paper however you desire.

Next continue by adding three (or more) pom-poms to create your ice cream cones.

And that is it folks!

Super easy, yet super cute card for someone special's birthday!

DIY: Valentine's Heart Banner

If you've read my blog for awhile, 

you're probably already aware I love to decorate.

(Proof can be found here, here and here!)

And if I can DIY the decoration, that's even better!

While I have quite a bit of Valentine's Day decor already,

I wanted something new and different this year,

and I'm a fan of DIY banners so that's what I set out to make!

After a little research online and very little thought,

I decided on a super simple heart banner in two different red patterns.

The Goods:

Scrapbook Paper*

Heart Stencil

Craft Rope or Twine

Slim Utility Knife

Scissors

Pencil

*I used two different red patterns, but use whatever you'd like!

Depending on the length of your banner,

trace as many hearts as you'll need.

I used five of one patterns and four of another,

and actually originally traced and cut out eight of each.

It was WAY more than I needed because of the size of my stencil.

On the reverse side of the patterned paper, 

draw little lines where you'll make cuts for your rope. 

Using your slim utility knife,

cut slits over the lines you just drew.

Slide the rope through one slit and then the other,

alternating between the two red patterns.

Lastly, hang your banner for all to see!

For this month's DIY post,

instead of sharing one DIY project,

Let's start with some homemade holiday cards.

If you've followed my blog for awhile,

you'll know that I make pretty much all my cards.

I've done it for years and can't imagine buying them again.

Which reminds me, I need to get on that for this year!

I've made thumbprint ornaments the past two years.

They are pretty easy and always come out really cute!

I should make some this year too.

I saw this idea in 2013 originally,

but waited until 2014 to make it.

And I LOVE it so very much!!!

I'll be displaying this for years to come for sure!

DIY: Pumpkin Vases

When I recently posted about the DIY: Pumpkin Puree,

I told you to check back soon for another DIY post

because I felt like I was cheating reposting about the puree.

I have guilt problems, but it probably works in your favor!!!

Well folks, soon is here and I am so excited about today's post!

And while technically I have blogged about the topic in the past,

I'm revisiting it and doing it ALL over this year,

instead of cheating, again, and reposting a past post!

Enough talk outta me, let me show you how to make these beauties!

The Goods:

Fall Colored Flowers

Mini Pumpkins

Floral Foam

Scissors

Cut the top off your pumpkins and scoop out all the seeds/goop.

Wash out, dry and then fit your floral foam inside each pumpkin.

Start with one variety of flower and secure them in the floral foam.

Keep adding the different varieties of flowers until your vase is filled.

And it looks something like this!

Or maybe like this!

Play around with the different flowers 

until you get the look you're going for!

Each one will look a little different and that's totally ok!

Show & Tell: Organization

When I saw that Andrea was hosting a Show & Tell Link Up about Organization,

I KNEW that I had to post, link up and show you all about my crazy ways!!!

Yes, I know my antics are crazy and yes, I know I'm a little OCD.

Okay, maybe more than a little...

Anyway - I know this post will be kinda long,

but it covers a lot of different aspects of organization in my life!

From the kitchen, to my closet, to holiday decor and more!!!

Keep reading to find out all about how I keep MY life organized!

Let me start out with lists.

I'm ALL about lists!

For me - using them makes it easier to prioritize, 

and I end up getting a lot more done!

I used them both at home and work.

My kitchen/dining room closet comes in very handy 

and if organized well it can store quite a bit! 

I purchased the baskets years ago on clearance from Target

and they've come in quite handy since day one.

Yes, even my freezer and fridge are organized.

I can't stand just throwing things in 

and I get more use out of the space this way!

And the organization extends to my pantry as well!

This makes cooking MUCH easier for me.

More baskets!!! I like lists, but I may like baskets more...

I don't have a linen closet and I had to come up with a solution.

I have a rather large bedroom closet, so I decided to use that

and organize my linens by type into different baskets. 

You didn't expect my linens to be organized and my clothes not, right?

Of course I organize all the clothes in my closet and dressers too!

In my closet, I separate things by sleeve length and then by color.

It makes finding whatever I'm looking fo a lot easier!

And my shoes are pretty organized as well.

I know that it takes up quite a bit of space,

but I like to keep my boots in their boxes.

They keep their shape much better and don't get dusty!

Most of my scarves are folded and organized in a dresser drawer...

But I also have a lot of my infinity scarves hanging here!

I'm not going to show you all my dresser drawers...

but just know that all the drawers are as organized as my sock drawer!

My brother and sister-in-law got me that jewelry case when I graduated from college.

It's super awesome and holds quite a bit!

But I now have too many bracelets.

So I made this handy little holder myself!

You're not surprised that my organization extends to my crafts too, right?

Again, being organized here makes finding what I'm looking for so much easier!

My cardstock is organized by color.

And my stickers are organized by occasion or holiday.

Last but not least, my holiday decorations are all organized into plastic tubs.

Years ago I had one, yes ONE tub, for all the holidays combined.

But since I like decorating SO much (see examples here, here and here!)

multiple holidays now have their own box(es)!!!

So that's it!

Like I said before...

I know that I'm a little (maybe a lot) crazy,

but this is what works for ME!

Not everything will work for everyone,

but I hope you you have found something useful.
