Lemonade Popsicles!

With Spring officially here and the temperature warming up,
I'm guessing many of us will be eating popsicles quite often.
Personally, I like to make them myself to control the ingredients.
And one of my favorite kinds is to use simple lemonade!

You can use whatever lemonade you'd like,
be it homemade or store bought - both kinds will work.
I tend to make my own using this recipe
then simply use molds to make my popsicles!

The Goods:
Lemons
Sugar
Water
Popsicle Molds
Popsicle Sticks

Cut your lemons in half and start juicing...

Squeeze the juice out of ALL your lemons.
I did a total of a dozen.

Measure out the amount of lemon juice you need.

And toss all the discarded lemons.
Of if you have a compost throw them in there!

Measure out your sugar and make your simple syrup.

Get your lemon juice, simple syrup and water ready to combine.

Then mix it all up in a big pitcher.

Fill your popsicle molds almost all the way full.
If you're using the tops that came with them, add them now.
If you're using popsicle sticks, freeze for about an hour
and then insert the sticks so they stay upright.

Freeze overnight to make sure they're completely solid.

Package them up and give to family and friends.

And of course enjoy one yourself!

DIY: Homemade Slime

but I didn't really include step-by-step instructions,
so I figured it was only right to do it again!

And I figured with Summer vacation in full swing,
now would be a great time to post about this fun project.
It'd make a cool activity to do with some youngin' with free time.

The Goods:
Borax
Glue
Water
Food Coloring

Combine the borax with water and mix it up.

Add the glue to a large mixing bowl.

Then add water...

Some food coloring...

And mix it up until everything is incorporated.

Add the water/borax mixture to the glue/water mixture...

And then start to stir with a spoon.

Once it starts to combine...

Ditch the spoon and mix using your hand.
Remove excess water and kneed until no longer sticky.

Not the fun part - play with the slime!!!

I had to test it to make sure it was a good batch!
Or I just wanted to pay with it...

Store in an airtight container.

Homemade Soup: Vegetable Soup!

Now that it's practically Summer, it's pretty warm out
so I doubt many of you are in the mood for some soup.

That's a shame because I recently made an AMAZING Vegetable Soup.
I researched recipes online for awhile and I didn't find anything I loved.
So, I combined two recipes (here and here) and sorta just did my own thing!

So take a look below at how I made my Homemade Vegetable Soup.

The Goods:
Frozen Lima Beans
Frozen Corn
Frozen Peas
Spinach
Garlic
Onion
Leeks
Broccoli
Green Bean
Carrots
Tomatoes
Potatoes
Parsley
Salt
Pepper
Vegetable Broth

Chop and measure everything out.

Cook the leeks, onion and garlic.
Season with salt and pepper.
Add the potatoes, carrots, green beans and broccoli.
Season with salt and pepper again!
Cook for three or so minutes.

Add the broth.
Season with salt and pepper.

Add the tomatoes, corn, peas and lima beans.
Stir and then add the spinach and stir again!
Season with salt and pepper once more!!!

It made A LOT!!

It was so light and delicious.
And I cannot wait to make it again!!

If soup isn't your thing during the Spring and Summer,
remember this recipe and make it when you are in the mood for soup!

Homemade Applesauce!

My brother was recently talking about making A LOT of applesauce (we're talking a bushel of apples here people!!), and it got me wanting some to eat and maybe even bake with. With that fresh in my mind, I bought a two pound bag of apples yesterday and made the delicious treat just hours later.

I knew I wanted to keep my applesauce pretty simple, so I just used apples, water and a tiny pinch of sugar. That's IT! No cinnamon, no other sweeteners, nothing! It may sound boring but it's incredibly tasty and really doesn't need anything else.

Wash, peel and dice the apples.

Add a lil water and a pinch of sugar if desired.
Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 25 to 30 minutes - until tender and starting to fall apart.

Transfer to a blender or food processor and puree to your liking.
Store in an airtight container in your fridge.

Homemade applesauce is amazing and I really should make some more often.
Maybe even make bigger quantities like my brother!!

Homemade Slime

I was hanging out with a couple friends recently and somehow we got on the subject of homemade slime. I mentioned that I'd seen a recipe and that I'd try to find it again. It wasn't too hard, so of course I found the recipe agan.

A couple weeks went by and I had plans to hang out with those same friends again. I had some free time earlier that day, so I decided I wanted to purchase the ingredients to make this homemade slime! Borax is NOT easy to find, or at least it wasn't for me! I have tons now though, so I don't think I'll be on the search for it again anytime soon.

Take a look at our homemade slime. It's super easy and fun for all ages!

The Goods:
Borax
Water
Food Coloring
Glue - White of Clear

Green with White Glue, Purple with Clear Glue

The homemade slime is very similar to Nickelodeon Gak I remember playing with as a kid. While both the white and the clear glue worked, it was a unanimous decision that the white was far superior and more similar to the original Gak.
