Baked Donut Monday: Red, White and Blue!

Oh heeeeeeeey there Monday!!!
I'm back again for another Baked Donut Monday post
and today I'm going to tell you about some super tasty
RED, WHITE & BLUE BAKED DONUTS!

Since today is the Fourth of July,
I figured it was only appropriate to share these donuts.
It's probably too late for you to make them this year,
but keep them in mind the next time you need a patriotic treat!

The Goods:
Butter
Vegetable Oil
Sugar
Eggs
Vanilla
Baking Powder
Salt
Baking Soda
All-Purpose Flour
Buttermilk
Red and Blue Food Coloring
Powdered Sugar
Heavy Cream

In a medium bowl, mix together the baking powder, salt, baking soda and flour.
Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, vegetable oil and sugar.

Add the eggs and vanilla to the sugar mixture and mix again.

Next add the dry mixture and the buttermilk alternately into the sugar mixture.
Stir until just combined, being careful not to over mix.

Divide the batter into thirds, placing one third into a zipper bag
and the other two thirds into two separate bowls.  
Tint one bowl with blue food coloring and the other with red food coloring.
Place the red batter into one bag and the blue batter into another bag.


Cut off the tip of each of the bags and pipe an equal amount of each into the donut pan.
You can leave the dough as it appears above or....

You can drag a toothpick through each to create more of a tie-dyed look.

Bake at 425 degrees for about 8 minutes (maybe longer depending on your oven).
You can test that they're done with a toothpick.

Cool in the pan a minute or two and then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Since I make donuts at least one a month, 
my sister-in-law insisted that I buy this pin recently!

While donuts are cooling, it's time to make the glaze.
Combine the powered sugar and vanilla, 
adding a tablespoon of cream at a time until glaze is smooth.

Dip the top of each donut into the glaze and return to wire rack to set up.

Now take a bite and enjoy the deliciousness of this patriotic donut!

Red, White and Blue Cupcakes!

but with Memorial Day a week away 
I thought it'd be fun to share again.
They're so easy to make and very festive too!
Enjoy!!!

I made a version of this cupcake for Easter - with spring colors, and I knew that it would be fun to make with other colors for different holidays. So how could I NOT make red, white and blue cupcakes to celebrate the Fourth of July? I'd be crazy not to, so I made them for a few friends and my co-workers to enjoy right before the actual holiday.



They are super easy to make, so take a look at how I made the fun little treats!

The Goods:
White Cake Mix
Water
Vegetable Oil
Eggs
Strawberry Jell-O Mix
Berry Blue Jell-O Mix
Cream Cheese Frosting

Pour the cake mix into mixing bowl.

Add the water...

Then the oil...

And now the eggs!

Mix it alllll up!

Set out three bowls.
One for RED, one for WHITE, and one for BLUE!
Put the Strawberry Jell-O mix in one bowl 
and the Berry Blue Jell-O mix in another.

Fill all the bowls up with an equal amount of cake mix.

And mix the ones with Jell-O!

This is what it will look like. 
I know - not crazy appetizing,
but it tastes good...I promise!!

Put Cupcake Liners in the pan.

Spoon red mix into the cups...

Then cover it with white mix...

And finish it up with a layer of blue!

Bake according to the box directions.

Here they are after baking!


Leave them alone until completely cool.

Put your frosting into a piping bag...

And frost the cupcakes!!!!


Then take them to work for your co-workers to enjoy!
Or eat them all yourself.
Do what you want, I won't judge! :)

Fourth of July Festiveness!

If you've been reading my blog for awhile,
you'll know how much I love decorating for holidays!

And since it's ALMOST the Fourth of July,
I figured it was about time I shared my patriotic decorations.
Some are homemade, but most are store bought.
Michael's recently had some deals I just couldn't pass us!

Like usual, my front door is festive with a homemade wreath!

Happy 4th from Los Angeles!

Happy 4th of July Everyone!

This year, I got a little crafty before the holiday and put together/made these fun little holiday touches I added to my apartment. 

Sunflowers just SCREAM Summer and 4th of July to me!

I've always loved arranging flowers, but this may have sparked a new fun hobby - wreath making!!!

So easy and so festive!!!

I'm planning to head to a girlfriend's place soon for some Independence Day fun. Whatever you plan to to, I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday, filled with fun, food, family and friends!!!
